This one-hour course will teach providers the basics of how to prescribe buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder (OUD). It will describe the core principles of buprenorphine treatment for OUD and discuss the pharmacology of buprenorphine. It will cover prescribing recommendations, guidance and implementation strategies for new buprenorphine prescribers. Finally, this training will also touch on best practices for buprenorphine initiation, dose stabilization, maintenance and discontinuation.
Disclaimer: Effective June 27, 2023 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced a one-time requirement of 8 hours of training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders for practitioners who are applying for or renewing their DEA license. This 1-hour ACCME-accredited course meets the DEA/SAMHSA requirement.
Laila Khalid, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. She is board-certified in internal and addiction medicine. She codirects a resident-led chronic pain clinic and is an eConsultant for opioid management of ambulatory patients at Montefiore. She is also a buprenorphine clinic site champion and leads the Buprenorphine Microdosing Working Group at Montefiore.
